About Weddings By Michaela
Hi, I'm Michaela and I’m so happy you’re here and want to know a bit more about who I am and how you can achieve beautiful photos of your European destination wedding.
My approach to wedding photography draws from my work experience in shooting reportage, portraiture, fashion and lifestyle - resulting in a mixture of posed stylised images and candid moments frozen in time.
My approach
I always start by understanding my clients' priorities and needs. My goal is to make you feel comfortable with me and in front of the camera, so I do everything in the session that'll help this happen! Posing guidelines are important because it lets couples know what poses will look best for their photos without having any awkwardness - and mood boards can really inspire the moment for capturing beautiful photos.
Whilst staying committed to covering these momentous occasions comprehensively and authentically, my assistant and I are also careful to just let people and things be as they are, to observe and capture from the sidelines and within the thick of the action without getting in the way.
KIND WORDS
“We were fortunate to have Miki as our photographer for our wedding. We got married in Koh Chang, Thailand back in 2011 and had been recommended a few local photographers; however we had met Miki the previous year and knew from seeing her work she would do a great job. Thankfully we were right and what we are left with is a beautiful set of photos that we cherish to this day. Miki was great on the day, giving direction when needed but mostly staying in the background taking natural shots. I would happily recommend Miki to anyone wanting to capture their special day.”

About Michaela
I am British-Filipina, born in the Philippines, and raised in Hong Kong. I am currently based in Germany, living my dream as a wedding photographer in Europe. I moved here in late 2020 to be with my partner, Axel, and we have a cute little life in Göttingen with our cat, Puzzle.
With a multicultural family background and education in international schools, I have always had an interest in travel. When I was little my favourite thing to do whilst watching TV or playing with friends at home was dreaming of visiting many countries all over the world - but not just because it would be fun; instead, being able to embed myself into other cultures made me feel more diversely-human too! So far, this desire has let me live in six different countries and experience life on a new level.
I’m the type of person that never really gets bored - I’m interested in too many things, to be honest. I’m a lifelong learner, creator, and observer. In my spare time, when I'm not capturing the most beautiful European destination weddings, I like to bury my head in books and devour op-eds and think pieces online. I enjoy running, hiking, Pilates, and combat sports like Muay Thai and boxing. I find cooking and gardening therapeutic, and I love to spend time with animals - whether they’re dogs, cats, or elephants. There’s just something so special about a human’s connection with animals. Food makes me happy; I prefer red wine over white, and my favourite drink of all time is a good ol’ Old Fashioned.
My passion for photography started young
I fell in love with photography when I was 12 years old and even at such a young age knew it would be my life's work. Ever since then, there has only been one goal: pursue this passion as much as possible!
That passion was the driving force behind the countless hours of practice, learning, training, and apprenticeships. My professional career began with reportage in the Manila art and music scene in the early 2000s, which eventually turned into to portraiture. As a self-taught photographer, I chased any and all opportunities to learn on the job what I couldn’t through traditional educational means.
For four years, I worked as a photographer's editor for Hong Kong Tatler, one of Asia’s leading luxury lifestyle magazines. It was an incredible opportunity to work with some of Asia’s most prestigious photographers and fashion stylists on high-profile client shoots that helped me hone both my editorial eye as well as the ability to tell compelling stories through powerful imagery.
After leaving Tatler, Weddings by Michaela was born. This was the end of my 9-5 "traditional" job and the beginning of an adventure that would lead me to my fulfilling work of capturing love stories in Germany and France.
My approach to wedding photography is a combination of my previous work experience in shooting reportage, portraiture, and lifestyle. The style I create for these weddings combines posed symmetrical images with candid moments frozen in time; this mixture has resulted in some truly beautiful photos!
I'm an English-speaking European destination wedding photographer, who shoots in Germany and France, and my work is inspired by my years in editorial publishing. I aim to capture the essence of your relationship with each other, friends, and family that you're gathered around on this special day - capturing not just what happens but also why it matters so much for your love story.
I love working with diverse expat couples and those looking for the most beautiful destination European weddings, whilst still holding onto their appreciation towards beauty found throughout life’s ordinary moments as well as extraordinary ones.
My mission is to bring happiness to others through my passion for photography. It will always be an honour to be trusted as someone’s wedding photographer, to be trusted with the task of visually immortalising the celebration of love between two people. It is not a job I take lightly and one that I will always feel privileged to undertake.
Let’s talk!
If I seem like “your kinda person” then I would absolutely love to hear from you. Nothing better than working with clients who vibe on the same frequency!
